AC and I are paying tribute to one of our favorite shows, The Golden Girls.
We kept talking about it in other threads, so we decided to just make a separate one.
"Thank you for being a friend..."
Rue Mclanahan loved her character's sultry nightwear so much that she had a clause put into her contract stating she could keep the clothing Blanche wore on the show, specifically those sometimes revealing nightgowns. She was allowed to take home nearly 500 of the outfits she donned on-camera and even converted a kitchen in her Manhattan apartment to a closet to fit all of those shoulder-padded blazers and pastel-colored two-piece suits. Awesome!
Did she get to keep this one? :(
Every Saturday between shows on Broadway and the West End, broadwayworld.com post pictures casts submit. Usually the pictures shows backstage shenanigans and how actors unwind. This picture comes from the cast of the musical Billy Elliot performing in London's West End. These guys do great ones each week but this one is my favorite!
The Golden Girls ate over 100 cheesecakes during the taping of the show, but in real life, Bea Arthur (Dorothy) detested the dessert. I wonder if she only starting not liking it because of having to eat so many or if she would have rather had a chocolate cake from the beginning.
What happens if you are having a crisis and you don't have a cheese cake?
Last weekend, I actually saw an episode of GG on tv, haven't seen that in many years, usually just watch my DVDs of the show.
Here's the pilot for those who haven't seen it. There is a housekeeper named Coco that only makes an appearance in the pilot. I really wonder what was the thought behind that character. Seems random to have a guy living with the gals, just didn't really fit the idea of the show.
I asked a Dutch friend if their version of the Golden Girls has English subtitles and he checked a sales page and it looks like it does not. It would be interesting to see if the stories were just translated versions of original episodes. I also wonder if the Rose character in the Dutch version dates one guy early on and then another guy later, but they are oddly played by the same actor (this happened with Arnie/Miles in the original).

I think VLC does an auto-translate if there is at least one closed caption/subtitle file on the disc. May not be perfect but likely good enough to get the plot.
Golden Palace: One of GG's spin offs
I really want to try to watch these episodes and give the series another shot. I have only had the chance to see a few of them, but was disappointed at the time. I felt like they were making the characters different than with GG. For example, Sophia was acting senile and not her usually spunky self.
The idea wasn't bad, just missing something.
Oh la la! Nice undies
Missed this show in Australia, maybe there will be a tour, fingers crossed!
Prepare for an evening of laughter, spectacular put-downs and familiar friends as Miami's four favorite Golden Girls - Dorothy, Sophia, Rose and Blanche - reunite in puppet-form for this lovingly hilarious live tribute show.
